Portchester Crematorium was opened in 1958 and is situated on the lower slopes of Portsdown Hill between Fareham and Portsmouth. The number of cremations conducted there has risen from an initial 400 to over 4,000 annually. It is now one of the busiest establishments of its kind in Britain. A second Chapel was opened in September 1969.

There are two Chapels, and both are open for use by any denomination or sect. Either the full funeral service or the committal may take place at Portchester. A regular organist is available to provide music on request. Tape or CD music is provided as part of the standard service and families are encouraged to personalise the service by providing their own recorded music.

The South Chapel is the larger of the two, with seating for 80 persons and standing room for a further 40. The North Chapel is the newer of the two Chapels, and was designed for smaller family group or for committal services. It has seating capacity for 40 people.

The Crematorium has ample parking available. For full travel directions click here.

The majority of service times available at Portchester are half an hour long, although there are four 45 minute bookings available in the larger South Chapel each day. If you would like a longer service, it is possible to book two service times to run together.
